Dear MacMurray Students, We are Here for You.

Dear MacMurray Students,

I can’t imagine what you are going through. While every college student across the country is suffering the loss of finishing the semester physically on campus, your loss weighs even heavier. The least I can do is offer words of encouragement, comfort, and hope. To say that I’m sorry, and I’m here for you.

When life switches gears on me and my future and plans are not what I hoped or expected, scripture has a way of giving me peace. I hope these words from Isaiah 41:10 comfort you during this time of disappointment, panic, and loneliness; Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous hand right hand.” Wherever God leads you next, so He too will be there, giving you strength.

Anytime that I’ve lost something near and dear to my heart, I find it easy to panic. Just as before I tend to turn to the Word for comfort. Joshua 1:9 reminds us, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” Wherever God leads you next, will be exactly where you are meant to be.

My prayer is for you to enter this next chapter fearlessly, whatever it may be.  If I have learned anything in 21 years, it’s that when you lose something it shouldn’t take away from the experiences the person or place gave you when it was here. Your Mac family will always be your family. No one can take away the time you spend there.

Much like MacMurray, we value our community. While we offer an excellent education, it’s not the reason students say they chose Greenville University. Students choose GU for the people. When you step foot on our sidewalks, it doesn’t take long before you’ve hugged President Filby and made five new friends. While Greenville University could never be MacMurray, and we would never want to try to replace your forever alma mater, I do want you to know that our arms are wide open. I am sending a virtual hug your way and a prayer up today. We are here for you.

If you have questions and would like to speak to a student at GU, contact us by emailing gsga@greenville.edu. I can’t wait to hear from you!

With Love,

Sidney Webster
