Communication Majors Unite!

Posted Tuesday, February 21st, 2012

I am a communication-Public Relations here at Greenville College. I am a Junior and it’s hard to believe that I will be graduating in approximately 3 semesters, 67.44 weeks, or 427.09 hours. I love my department and working with the people in it daily. Here are my few reasons why I LOVE being a Comm Major.

  1. We watch movies like The Breakfast Club, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, and Little Manhattan and it is still VERY educational
  2. It’s acceptable for us to talk out of turn in class. Chill and relaxed atmospheres are always present in my Comm classes.
  3. We put our desks in a circle and sit through a class that way instead of the typical rows every day.
  4. We pray before every single class. This allows us to focus on the tasks for that class period and leave our burdens and worries to God.
  5. We take a class picture at the beginning of every semester.
  6. Communication can not only help in your selected careers anywhere around the world, but also any relationship too! We use it daily, why not be a pro at it!?
  7. Group projects are always involved in Comm classes, if you love them then your happy, if you hate them this helps you prepare for the real world!:)

Music Madness

Posted Monday, January 30th, 2012

On Wednesday Decemeber 7th Fusion and Jazz ensembles held a concert in the Blackroom on the Greenville College campus. The Fusion Ensemble group is a class that can be taken the illustrates the funk and Latin influences of music today. Also added to this mix is a little bit of pop and rock. Instruments that are apart of this collaboration are bass, drums, piano, guitars, percussion as well as two lead singers.

The Jazz ensemble is a group with more of  rhythm sections, vocals, and horns. This group works on classic jazz numbers as well as contemporary to accommodate to a variety of different audiences.

At the end of the year both groups but on a showcase concert to show what that have been working on all semester. Concert credit was offered to students who needed it and it was a very entertaining concert! if you are ever on campus when a showcase like this is being held make sure not to miss out!!

Winter Wonderland

Posted Monday, January 30th, 2012

This past weekend a Christmas show was held in the Blackroom on campus. This show had everything you could want during the holiday season. Filled with ugly Christmas sweaters, Christmas lights strung around the stage, lit up reindeer, and of course a room full of Christmas tunes. The musical talents consisted of Aleena Korell, The Bow Tie Trio, Mobile Mic, and Isles of North. This was a great night just to get away from all the worries and stresses of what the last few weeks of school brings to us. Below you can find a few of the links of the bands that played. Check them out!

Greenville College Music

Posted Thursday, December 8th, 2011

Greenville College is very well known for all of the campus bands we house. If you’re looking to get involved with this crowd, there are 3 places i recommend for you.

  • The Blackroom
  • Whitlock Music Center
  • The DC

We have a large number of bands on campus, too. These musical talents are so incredibly diverse. We have our choral music which huge. We also have lab bands who take a class for credit and in return get critiqued by professors, free practice space and  time, and they are guaranteed an end of the year showcase slot.

Below you will find the link to the Music Departments page. There is so much information ranging from classes, to blogs, to majors and minors. Check it out if your at all interested in getting connected with the Greenville College Music scene!

Flee or Final

Posted Thursday, December 8th, 2011

This time of year is always the most grueling portion of the entire year. It’s the end of the first semester, finals are coming, group projects are announced, Christmas is so close we can smell it, and  we just never feel like we have enough gas to keep going. It’s hard to find time for yourself to recharge and chug through the next 2 weeks. Here on campus there are actually a great number of ways to get a little juice back in your battery.

  • Drive the back roads of Greenville and just drive. It’s really refreshing.
  • Watch a Christmas movie in the upper union with your closest friends.
  • Have a baking party with friends. Nothing screams happiness more than fresh baked cookies.
  • Write. Writing out all your anxious worries and frustrations can help you so much when feeling all the end semester pressures.
  • Go to a show in the Blackroom. There’s is always a fun Christmas show going on towards the end of the year.
  • Climb something you shouldn’t, but TAKE EXTRA CAUTION.
  • Girls, we love having spa days, so give yourself one! Not only will you look incredible, but you will FEEL better too!
  • Go for a quick run or walk. It’s a great thing to get some fresh air in your lungs.

Keep chugging everyone!! We are almost there, then we can all go home and spend time sleeping in our OWN BEDS!!

Trick Or Treat Time

Posted Friday, October 28th, 2011

During the Halloween season here on campus, there stands a long lasting tradition of inviting the community into Burrit Hall and letting kids trick-or-treat through the halls. Students decorate the halls around one central theme. Last year Burrit was decorated around a Disney theme. One hall was themed like the movie Finding Nemo, including of course Nemo, Dori, and all the other characters from the movie. This year GC is expanding the trick-or-treating area to a number of different halls! Not only will Burrit get to decorate the halls but also Janssen, Joy, West Oak, and Mannoia. It will be interesting to see what the boys in Janssen, Joy, and West Oak come up with, considering they are all boys and generally not so creative in the decorating aspect of life! :) This event will be happening on October 31st from 5:30 to 8 pm. I encourage everyone if you are in the area come out and experience GC at it’s weirdest!

The Men of Pod 104

Posted Thursday, October 13th, 2011

When I was going through my college search I remember vividly looking at what the campus had to offer me as far as a future husband goes!? These times in our lives we feel the need to begin our search for our future husband. I would like introduce you all to a few boys that hold a special place in my heart. They are very well rounded for the most part and maybe this will give you an idea of what kind of men we have on campus. Also keep in mind that these are all baseball players here at GC. :) Enjoy!

Where Art Thou Fall

Posted Thursday, October 13th, 2011

My favorite time of the year on the Greenville Campus has got to be the fall. The leaves are changing, we get to wear hoodies, fires are taking place where we can roast marshmallows and make s’mores, football is on during sunday afternoon naps, and most of all it’s such a great feeling after a brisk cold fall night to cuddle up in your blankets and watch a classic movie with your friends and a nice cup of hot chocolate. Well with that being said, if anyone finds this glorious weather i have described please send it to the Midwest! I just do not understand why, in the month of October, as i am walking to class in SHORTS and a hoodie, I begin to SWEAT! It is October! Take a look at this screen shot that does not make ANY sense at all.

I think its about time mother nature start sending us the same stuff we learned in grade school. When we saw October on the front wall with all the months and the pictures that correspond with that month, nice falling leaves are ALWAYS there. Never was the picture a hot sun with those fashionable sunglasses, or a tall glass of lemonade! All I am saying here is I cannot wait for Fall to finally show itself around for longer than 2 days.
